FAQs of Woven patches
Yes! Woven patches can be easily heat-sealed to garments if they have an iron-on (heat-seal) adhesive backing. Because woven patches are thinner and flatter than embroidered or chenille patches, they absorb and transfer heat efficiently, creating a strong, clean bond.
Step-by-Step Heat-Seal Application Guide
Recommended Settings:
- Temperature: 320°F – 340°F (160°C – 170°C)
- Pressure: Medium to Firm
- Time: 15 – 20 seconds
1.Pre-Heat the Fabric:Prerequisite.
Press the application area on the garment for 5 to 8 seconds to remove any moisture or wrinkles.
2.Position the Woven Patch:1 min.
Place the patch face up in your desired location on the garment.
3.Cover with Protective Sheet:Safety Step.
Cover the patch with a Teflon sheet or a thin cotton cloth to protect the fine woven threads from direct iron contact.
4.Top Press:15-20 sec.
Apply firm, direct pressure over the protective sheet for 15 to 20 seconds without moving the iron back and forth.
5.Reverse Press (Recommended):15-20 sec.
Turn the garment inside out and press directly on the back side of the fabric for another 15 to 20 seconds to melt the adhesive fully into the fabric fibers.
6.Cool and Verify:3-5 min.
Allow the garment to lay flat and cool completely for 3 to 5 minutes before handling. Gently lift the edges to verify that the adhesive bond is firm and secure.
What is the difference between woven patches and embroidered patches?
While both options create classic, durable patches, the key difference lies in the thread thickness and manufacturing technique:
- Woven Patches: Made using ultra-fine, flat threads woven tightly together. This creates a smooth, continuous surface capable of capturing high-definition details, small text, and clean lines without added weight or bulk.
- Embroidered Patches: Made by stitching thicker thread onto a base fabric backing. This creates a textured, 3D raised surface with a traditional, classic look, but requires larger text and simplified design details.
You can use up to 9 distinct colors in your woven patch design. Because woven patches use ultra-thin threads woven continuously on precision looms, incorporating multiple colors maintains a smooth, seamless finish without making the patch thick or heavy.
What is the process for ordering a woven patch or label?
- Submit Your Artwork: Send us your logo, design, or sketch along with your preferred size, backing, and quantity requirements.
- Review Your Digital Mock-Up: Our design team creates a detailed digital proof of your woven patch or label for your approval.
- Request Revisions or Approve: Review the design layout, colors, and dimensions. Request any necessary tweaks or give us the green light.
- Sample Creation: Once the digital layout is approved, we produce a physical sample to ensure exact thread matching and precision.
- Full Production & Delivery: After final sample approval, we run full production on our precision looms and ship your finished order directly to you.
What backing options are available for woven patches?
We offer a wide range of backing options to suit your garment material, intended application method, and overall design needs:
- Heat-Seal (Iron-On) Backing: Features a heat-activated adhesive layer that creates a strong, permanent bond with standard fabrics using a heat press or household iron.
- Sew-On / Unbacked: Features a clean, soft back without added adhesives, ideal for direct machine stitching or hand-sewing onto garments, hats, and delicate fabrics.
- Velcro (Hook & Loop) Backing: Available with single-sided (hook only) or double-sided (hook and loop) attachments for quick application and easy removal on tactical gear, uniforms, and outerwear.
- Peel & Stick (Self-Adhesive) Backing: A temporary sticky backing perfect for trade shows, events, or short-term placement on items where heat or stitching isn't feasible.
- Plastic (PVC) Backing: Adds extra rigidity, structure, and seal to the rear of the patch, preventing distortion and protecting thread tension over long-term use.
Because woven patches are produced using ultra-fine threads on high-precision looms, they can achieve significantly smaller text and thinner lines than traditional embroidery:
- Minimum Text Height: Text should be at least 1.5 mm to 2 mm tall (approximately 4pt to 5pt font size) to ensure every letter remains sharp, legible, and crisp.
- Minimum Line Thickness: Fine lines and subtle detail paths should be a minimum of 0.2 mm to 0.3 mm thick.
If your artwork contains elements below these limits, our design team will recommend minor adjustments or slight scaling to guarantee your woven patch translates perfectly from screen to thread.
We offer woven patches in a wide range of sizes, starting from as small as half an inch 1 up to 7 inches wide. Whether you need a subtle, high-detail brand label or a large, prominent emblem for jackets and outerwear, our precision looms can handle your exact dimensions.
